Most of you may know GNOME Boxes; the application that allows you to run and create virtual systems under GNOME desktop.
However, did you know that it has a built-in snapshot feature?
The snapshot feature allows you to save the current state of any virtual machine so that you can restore it to that state whenever you want.
Say you installed Ubuntu 22.04 for example as a virtual machine, and by mistake, you removed some important system packages and now your system is broken. No issues, using the snapshot feature, you can restore your virtual machine back in time to the state where it was working.
The only thing you need to do, of course, is to create these snapshots in “good” states so that you can revert back to them. I recommend creating these snapshots directly after installing your virtual OS so that you can save the installation time at least when you want to get back to the vanilla state of your virtual OS.
It’s a very good and nifty feature, and most of the time is underlooked. 🙂
