I subscribed to the premium version of Bitwarden; the open source password manager. I have been using it for a couple of years but I wanted to try some more advanced security features for my account. It’s just $10/year so it’s not really that much expensive.
The best one I liked so far is their TOTP (time-based one-time password) addon.
Basically, on websites which force you to use 2FA like GitHub, you can use Bitwarden to be your 2FA password-generation tool. You just have to set it up first from your account settings (on any service like GitHub, Twitter… etc), and then you can start getting TOTP’s while signing in:
But what I like about Bitwarden is that as soon as it detects that you are trying to login into a site using 2FA, it automatically copies the auth code/TOTP into your clipboard, and you just have to paste it in the sign-in form using Ctrl-V! 😙
In this way, you save a lot of time when trying to login using 2FA to the websites and services you use.
(Some may argue that it is a security concern to use your password manager as your TOTP app as well… but if your password manager is compromised then you have bigger issues I am afraid).
